A food ordering app
About: For the UX design class, I came up with, Cake It Easy, a food ordering app for people with food allergies. The app centers around home chef Uyen Ly, a baker and a photographer.
What I Did: I came up with the logo, the name, the design & the interactions of the entire app. The photos were provided by Uyen.

THE Research PROCESS
CAKE IT EASY is a food ordering app for people with food allergies. It is an online directory that allows users to search for local home chefs and restaurants that match their special diets.
Home chefs can build their menus online. Users can place their orders online and have the options of pick-up or delivery.
Many kids in the current days are allergic to eggs, nuts, shellfish and some even dairy. Their parents are busy and would like to have takeouts sometimes, or on a regular basis. But it could be a challenge, especially for people who are allergic to dairy, soy, and/or wheat. The Cake It Easy customers can discover local home chefs or restaurants that are specialized in their diets. Some restaurants’ websites will all also let you customize the ingredients in their foods.
The Cake It Easy home chefs can get discovered, based on the users’ settings. They can build their menus online. Their customers can order in advanced, check-out from the app.
User Needs
The customer: to discover local home chefs or restaurants that suit their diets and/or let them customize the foods. The foods can be delivered to their doors and it can be ordered in advanced. They can also re-order the same foods.
The home chef: to get discovered. To get ingredients on time to make cakes, based on data from their customers' orders, such as the most popular dish/cake, or the peak day or peak season for cakes orders.
User Goals

To easily order foods that they are not allergic to.

To have family gatherings or parties with foods that everyone can enjoy, including the kids who have allergies such as eggs, wheat, etc.
Assumptions

The foods and cakes are always fresh and are delivered on the correct dates and times.

The foods and cakes do not contain foods the users’ are allergic to. There is no cross contamination of other ingredients during the cooking process.
Constraints

Depends on where the users live, there might not be many bakeries or restaurants to choose from.

The delivery fees may vary, depending on how far are the restaurants or home chefs from the users.
The Design Process
I wanted to create a cake icon, that also has an appearance of a house/home. The icon represents home cooking, with a heart on the top to represent the love and care put into the cooking. The name was changed from Baked with Love to Cake It Easy to have some humor and also to express the purpose of the app: make the lives of people with allergies easier by connecting them to home chefs or restaurants that are specialized in their diets.
